Year 2

Campus is buzzing, the work load is getting heavier, and the nights out are in full force. It’s official: year 2 has started.

After 3 months at home I’m finally back at uni and moved into my new house for the year. With 10 of us in the house it’s already getting crazy, with nights out becoming the new night in. Despite only moving in last weekend it already feels like I’ve been here for weeks, enjoying every second with my friends who I hadn’t seen all summer! But in spite of the partying and fresher’s events, it’s clear that year 2 is going to make me work harder than ever. But I’m up for the challenge.

Getting prepared…

Despite not being given a reading list over the summer I spent my time wisely, researching possible books that could be useful and brushing up on notes from last year. If you haven’t got a reading list I highly recommend doing a quick bit of research into your new modules and make sure you have all your questions answered before term starts so you’re less stressed.

Induction week…

Week 1 in the Linguistics department is always fairly relaxed and gets you excited for the year ahead. This week I’ve had induction lectures, introducing me to the main themes of my new modules and even my new lecturers. It’s so great having an induction week because it means you can get yourself sorted without the stress of actual lectures, as well as catching up with course friends. It’s also the perfect time to buy textbooks so you’re not rushing around during lectures when you’ll be needing them the most.

Nights out…

This year is going to be so different as I’m living in Leamington Spa rather than on campus. The best thing about this is that there’s finally no need for transport to nights out! As much as the UniExpress was a lifesaver on campus, the time restraints and the queues did put a downer on the night out. So living only 5 minutes walk away from everywhere in Leamington is going to be so convenient.

New modules…

After choosing my optional modules for this year I’m extremely excited to be studying exactly what I’m interested in. Sociolinguistics is my one choice as well as starting Italian from scratch. I’m so excited to be doing another language, I can’t wait to get started.
