It’s that time of year again where prospective students start looking for accommodation after accepting their university offers. As I chose Sherbourne as my first choice and I lived in Sherbourne in my first year, I thought it would be appropriate to share why I liked Sherbourne and give you my thoughts on living there!

I may be bias, but I loved Sherbourne! The myth is that Sherbourne is a long walk from main campus and takes ages to get to your lectures; this is not true. Sherbourne is located in Lakeside Village which houses Sherbourne, Lakeside and Heronbank which is home to over 2,000 students across these three residences. It can be very popular as it’s the most picturesque area on campus surrounded by lots of green space and beautiful settings. It is also very close to the Sports and Wellness Hub which includes a very modern gym and outdoor and indoor spaces for sports societies to meet and play sport. Lakeside village is roughly a short 10-minute walk from main campus and is a lovely walk past the central lake and the Warwick Business School building. In my first year it took me less than 10 minutes to walk to my lectures so don’t make ‘the long walk’ put you off Sherbourne as it’s a lovely walk and nice to be a bit further out of main campus.

Sherbourne is a 40-week let which means you don’t have to move out for the Easter break unlike accommodations with 35 week lets like Jack Martin and Arthur Vick where you have to move all your belongings out for 5 weeks which can be hard for those who don’t have adequate transport to move everything back home or don’t live in the UK. Sherbourne is a corridor style flat so you need your key fob to get into your flat which makes it very safe and secure. I found the kitchen space to be the perfect space for all ten of us with a big island and table in the middle which was always good for eating dinner or doing uni work.

Sherbourne has all en-suite bathrooms which was a lovely feature to have if you don’t want to share a bathroom in your first year. I found the bedroom to be the perfect size with a nice big desk and lots of light. I was lucky enough to be in a new Sherbourne block, this is something you don’t pick; you find out your room and hall number when you collect your keys on the first day. There are three new Sherbourne blocks which are very similar to the other Sherbourne blocks in that there is still a single bed, en suite and a big kitchen. There is also plenty of storage underneath the beds which I used two big Ikea boxes to store things in.

Sherbourne has a lovely atmosphere and I found it was perfect for me. We were a very lively flat with a good balance of social life and partying as well as leaving enough time for university work. I would highly recommend Sherbourne as I met my best friends for life in my flat and was a place I felt safe and at home. Don’t worry if you don’t get your first choice of accommodation. Warwick accommodation has high standard accommodation that will be suitable for everyone. I hope this blog post has helped for selecting your accommodation. Good luck with your exams and stay safe!
