What to expect/ do on an offer day?
Prospective students – hopefully you will have received an offer to study here at Warwick, but don’t worry if you haven’t. My applications last academic year to Warwick received offers at different times: Politics in December and PPL (which is the degree I really wanted to do more) in April, so you may need to be patient.
For those who have had an offer, you should feel extremely proud, as Warwick is a fantastic place to be accepted. You will now have the opportunity to come to an Offer Day. If possible I would thoroughly recommend coming this as it will provide you with an insight into the everyday Warwick student life and it helped me decide that the Warwick campus etc was definitely where I wanted to come.
What to expect?
An Offer Day is much more catered to you as an individual, as you can pick course-specific activities to do. Each department varies in what they offer on a particular day. Last year I attended a PPL Offer Day, where Patrick Tomlin (Director of PPL) held a mini-lecture. This provided great insight into how the format of learning changes from Sixth Form/ College to University.
The department also held a talk about what it is like to be a Warwick student, whilst also providing more information about studying abroad, societies, living on and off campus, plus the career opportunities available/to be gained during your time here at Warwick. The Student Ambassadors are very approachable and it was held over lunch in a relaxed environment, where there were also some of the lecturers by whom I am now taught. They were happy to discuss my optional modules and helped me decide that I would prefer to do tort law rather than criminal law. Disclaimer – not all departments provide lunch, please see details from the department for your Offer Day.
The course specific events are a fabulous opportunity to meet your future course-mates. I met a girl from Luxembourg and we are now really good friends and study all the same modules. Making these contacts now will make it easier when arriving at Warwick. If you can’t attend for the PPL Offer Day, there is a Facebook Offer Holder Day page you can join to keep up to date and meet others on your course.
On the Offer Day, I was also able to have a campus tour which was much smaller than that of the Open Day. It provided me with information about the buildings that were more course relevant to me and I could also explore the different accommodation offers, get advice, and ask myself the important question; ‘can I see myself here next year?’
