What to do during Easter Break if you are not travelling back home

Term 2 is over and I am not sure if it is just me but it was faster than I expected. It seems that I passed Christmas with my family, took a flight to the UK again and now I am about to take another flight. Sadly, it is not to go home.

When some friends and people asked me if I was travelling back home and my reply was no, their expressions changed to a sad one, feeling the compassion of this poor girl that is not going back home. I really hate that. I pretended that I don’t care; that flying home was so far away and expensive (which is completely true). However, the true reason I don’t like this comment is that I do want to go home. As I mention every time, it is the most complicated thing ever and I got so stressed planning and taking all the flights and trains but it is worth it. When my parents wait for me at the airport, when they buy my favourite vegan/healthy desserts (made with Peruvian products), when we are together in our car travelling from the airport to our flat; everything is so worth it at that moment: the 15+ hours flying, the flight connections, the stress…

I always say that “easy things are never worth it” and this is one clear example of it. Travelling back home has also allowed me to visit some European cities like Madrid and Paris. Now I am going to another one, to Verona. The trip this time will be different: London-Milan and Verona-Birmingham, and that is!

Therefore, one thing that you can do during Easter break if you are not travelling back home is to travel around Europe or The UK. Travelling around Europe is not that expensive, you can find many low-cost flights. Also, you can visit some friends; for example, I have a friend in Sheffield, another in London and my cousin in Paris; so I might visit them all and explore these cities.

Another thing that I have to do is to study. I want to be ready for summer exams so I will start studying as soon as I come back from Italy. The breaks are always a good time to catch up with some material and to go back to some topics you did not understand at all.

However, don’t forget that the break is a time to rest! You can spend time with friends, organise day-trips, picnics (when the weather is nice), dinner or coffee chats. Also, you can relax by doing one of your hobbies: reading, writing, running, any sport…

And if you are missing home, you can always have family or friends calls. I am planning many! My family and I used to watch movies together all time and we will do kind of the same during this Easter.

I know it is really hard but it is not impossible, and it is just another difficulty we will overcome!
