Week 9: Workload, Assessment Centre Prep, Essay, The Weeknd Concert, Skygarden
Week 9 has been one of the busiest weeks in my entire uni experience. From having to make a presentation for an upcoming assessment center, to an essay deadline, to Russian homework, and finally to enjoying myself at one of my favorite artist’s live concert at the O2 Arena, as well as visiting the Skygarden (a long awaited bucket list wish). I will not bore with the usual workload fussing and I will try my best to describe the tumultuous emotions I have experienced at my now #1 concert I have attended.
Not trying to brag now, but I have listened live to these artists before: Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Sia, John Newman, Tinie Tempah, Tom Odell, Armin van Buuren, Avicii, David Guetta, Lost Frequencies, Placebo, The 1975, Bastille, Steve Aoki and others, but I will admit that this concert (Starboy: Legend of the Fall Tour) blew me away. Not only did he have two amazing opening acts: Lil Uzi Vert (Bad and Boujee) and Bryson Tiller (Don’t, Rambo, Right My Wrongs, Sorry Not Sorry), but he brought Drake as a surprise guest after he sang Crew Love (a song he made in collab with Drake). Moreover, Drake sang 3 of his songs: Fake Love, Jumpman, Energy and gave an emotional speech to the fans, saying how House of Balloons(Abel’s first studio album) is amongst his top 5 favorite albums of all time and how ‘ovoxo’ is forever. Ovoxo is the Canadian based collabo group that includes rapper Drake (the OVO), and the R&B singer The Weeknd (XO). OVO stands for October’s Very Own as Drake was born October 24. OVO is the annual festival that Drake holds in Toronto. The logo for OVO is an owl that Drake can be seen wearing at times. XO is the slogan and logo of R&B singer ‘The Weeknd’.
The Weeknd sang a mixture of his newer songs from Starboy, for example, Secrets, Rocking, I Feel It Coming, Six Feet Under, Party Monster, False Alarm, Nothing Without you, A Lonely Night, Sidewalks as well as some old classics, such as The Morning, High for this.
I have to tell you guys that I got these tickets as a Christmas present for my boyfriend. He was all emotional and with teary eyes by the end of this monumental experience. He is not only the biggest fan of The Weeknd but also of Drake (who is one of the first rappers he listened to). The following day we went to Skygarden, the famous enlarged glass dome of 20 Fenchurch Street which is dedicated to three storeys of exquisitely landscaped public gardens and London’s most exclusive social spaces, including observation decks and an open-air terrace. A tip: do book in advance. I booked us two tickets three weeks ago I believe. Another important aspect: it’s free! Here are some pictures from the lovely venue:
