Warwick’s Food Market

Every month, a food market comes to the Piazza, offering around thirty different stalls with a wide selection of mouth-watering food from many different cuisines. I’ve been a couple of times before, but this Wednesday was the last food market of the year, so I thought I’d better head down and make the most of it.

Running from 11-3, the food market can get very busy as everyone heads down to grab some lunch amidst a busy day at uni. Because this is the last week of term, however, it was a lot less crowded than usual as many students have either already gone home for the summer, or even if they’re still here, will have finished all their work by now (unless you’re an unlucky postgrad working through the summer) so may not be on campus everyday.

I always have to wander around looking at all the stalls for ages before I can make any kind of decision concerning what I want to eat! I love taking in all the smells and watching the food being cooked right in front of you. Firm favourites among Warwick students which always seem to have a healthy queue include Flying Cows gourmet burgers, Sharian’s Cuisine Jamaican street food, and Buddha Belly Thai street food. This week I felt like the pizza from Barebones Pizza was calling to me, so I headed over to their van which houses a wood-fired oven to cook the pizza in front of you in just a few minutes. My pizza, which was a 10" Meaty and Spicy cost £8 – much more than I would normally spend on lunch on a daily basis but worth it when it’s a one-off!

I also treated myself to an Oreo brownie from Mrs Mills’ Cakes for £2.50 which was HUGE. A literal slab of brownie, it was amazing. Unfortunately, it was so good that I ate it all before I remembered to take a picture of it!

Feeling very full but very content, I headed back home, glad that I’d got to sample the delights of the food market for one final time this year!

You can go here https://www2.warwick.ac.uk/services/retail/eat-drink/foodmarket/ to see when the next food market is (although it hasn’t been updated with the new Term 1 dates yet) and to see a full list of the stalls available.
