The Recruiting Officer by George Farquhar

SOCIETY: Warwick University Drama Society (WUDS Fund)

ABOUT:

Shrewsbury, 1704. Dashing Captain Plume and his Sergeant Kite have returned from the Battle of Blenheim to recruit (in more ways than one) in Shrewsbury for the British Army. Plume, notorious for his promiscuity, has fallen in love with feisty judge’s daughter Sylvia; his local friend Worthy with Sylvia’s wealthy upstart cousin Melinda. Melinda is tactically wooing Plume’s cowardly colleague Brazen, Kite is goading naive young men into the army under false pretences, and Melinda’s meddling maid Lucy is trying to find a husband herself.

It’s all very well taking a shine to the county heiress, but what happens when she follows you into the army, dressed as a man? Has the Restoration’s original bad boy met his match in Sylvia?

Consider this your official invitation to #getyourrakeon

Angus, Songs, and Perfect Snogging

SOCIETY: Musical Theatre Warwick (MTW)

ABOUT:

This musical has been adapted from the classic film and book series ‘Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging’ by Louise Rennison, and follows the life and (melo)drama of everyone’s favourite awkward teen, Georgia Nicholson, featuring songs from shows including Waitress, Hairspray, Dear Evan Hansen, Legally Blonde, and The Last Five Years. It will be performed in the Humanities Studio in week 10, term 1.

Welcome to the tragic universe that is Georgia’s sad life, and here’s five major reasons why. Number one, her parents are from the Stone Age. Number two, they hate her having a life just because theirs is already over. Number three, her little sister Libby is bonkers. Even Angus the cat will need therapy. Number four, her nose is the size of JUPITER. Number five, she’ll never get a boyfriend. Especially not sex-god, new boy-at-school, TOTALLY-out-of-her-league Robbie… Follow Georgia and the Ace Gang as they navigate the trials and tribulations of teenage life. Boys, snogging, accidentally shaven eye-brows, we’ve all been there, so let’s look back on our teenage years and laugh a little, in MTW’s 2018 Revue.

TICKETS: TBA £2 (SOLD OUT) Message Main page to be on waiting list!

WHEN: 4th and 6th December
