The Next Chapter

For the last 18 years of my life, I have been enrolled in some kind of educational establishment- from kindergarten through to university. Now, for the first time ever I am no longer a ‘student’ (Think of all the student discounts that I will no longer be eligible for!)

As I had mostly essays because I chose 100% coursework, I finished quite early on the 16 of May with my speaking test for Mandarin. I only just had the ‘champagne popping end of degree’ experience today with a couple of my friends who finished!

It felt great to be free, but, I’m not going to lie, this also feels kind of scary. Although the prospects of my grad life excites me, I am definitely going to miss Leamington, all my uni friends, and just that sense of familiarity of waking up in the mornings and going to lectures. That’s what uni does to you I think- moving to uni from home was a big shock to the system but it is fair to say that moving on from uni life is going to be an even bigger change.

Journalism being a passion of mine, I am happy to say that I will be working as a ‘staff writer’ for a real estate publication in Bangkok. As I will be researching and writing about real estate developments for property developers and investors- focusing on the Shanghai, Hong Kong, and Singapore industries, I will get the chance to learn about this niche area as well as use my Mandarin skills. I applied through LinkedIn and had to do a try-out article, an online test, and an interview. The role will start on the 1st of August (and I graduate on the 20th of July) so I won’t really have a summer.

So, I am currently making the most out of the time I have from now until graduation- it’s been great having a lie-in most mornings, cooking/baking more than I usually do, shopping, chilling, going for walks, etc. I am looking forward to the travelling in the coming weeks as well- I am planning to go to Malta and Stockholm in June.

Anyways, as I only have a couple of blog posts left as a PAIS student at Warwick, I thought I’d do a series of posts relating to graduating and life beyond- starting from this post just updating you guys on what the next chapter holds in store for me.
