term 1 year 2, What I learned?
If you ask me to describe my first term of year 2, I will say that it was unforgettable; that It was the first time in my life when I truly felt like a university student; the first time but I am sure it will not be the last one.
And it is hard and more valuable in these times because now everything is different and tend to be more difficult. Travelling, making new friends, studying has changed drastically; however, it is not the end of the world! It is never the end of the world because life continues, and changes are inevitable.
I enjoyed term 3 of year 1 but the last term was better. I still remember my emotion when I had my first seminar in person, and you can imagine how excited I am about having lectures in person too!
However, it seems that every time things go better something happens; something ruins and alter our “peaceful” life. Therefore, we start again to be worried and worried! Is this a cycle that is never going to end? the optimistic answer is a big NO; however, we should be ready to adapt ourselves to this new reality because the world will never be the same.
Term 1 was quite good. I got to balance the huge academic work, several society execs positions, social life… everything that represents a university experience. Moreover, I got one of my biggest dreams: spend December 10th (my birthday) in Paris. Probably, if you have lived all your life in Europe, you will not see why this is special for me. As a Peruvian, I have always seen Europe as that amazing and far away country, that place I want to go to. I wanted to spend my fifteenth birthday in Paris at the top of the Tower Eiffel but it was not possible. I went to Paris and other European cities for my fifteenth birthday but due to the weather, I travelled there in October 2017.
4 years pass and the fifteen years old that remains in me was the happiest girl on earth when she went to Pairs with her best friend on December 10th. Paris was simply perfection. It was the best trip ever but arriving there was not easy at all. Covid cases increased due to the new variant Omicron during the last weeks of term 1. Everywhere you looked you found someone infected. My friend and I were worried as we were in contact with someone positive! We almost died that day but we did not catch the virus and after taking care and following the safety measures, we took the train London-Paris.
“We got this”, we said. We got it after all. We’ve got this since the start because good things happen to good people.
Don’t forget that you can have everything you want, but not everything at the same time. I learnt this a bit before and it is so true.
Cannot be more grateful!
Nothing can stop you from getting your dreams and objectives, even a pandemic.
