Surviving Results Day!

Hey folks,
I can imagine a lot of you read the title and groaned. SORRY! I know its not nice to be reminded off doomsday. On the flipside, I can imagine a lot of you actually cannot stop thinking about A-level results day (I was one of you guys haha, I was DREADING IT). Whether you are trying to block it out or are already stressing about results day, I wanted to share with you what I did to make the day so much less daunting.
(P.S. If you have already had your results day, CONGRATULATIONS! I hope it worked out as planned and that you are happy)
Tools you need to create Lottie’s epic results day survival guide:
- A pen
- Some paper
- Internet access
- Time! You do not want to rush this.
- Snacks (not essential but chocolate most definitely helps!)
The method:
To create this survival guide what I did was firstly list every single possible scenario that I could think of that could unfold on the day. No this does not include alien sightings or the queen arriving but it does include realistic things. For example: One scenario is that you get into your Warwick (happy days) and another could be that you are too sick to make it to results collection.
Once you have done this, what I recommend you do is write a step-by-step guide of what you will do in every scenario. Again: If you get accepted into Warwick, this may just look like celebrating; however if you wake up too sick to arrive this could include a list of phone numbers of the school to find out your results on your UCAS details so you can check your admission status at home.
Sometimes it can be challenging to decide what to put in to these guides but you can always ring up UCAS, Warwick or your school if you are really stuck on what the process is for a certain scenario. Here is an example page, which may help you in the mean time:
PLAN Z: I DID NOT GET INTO WARWICK OR ANY OF MY INSURANCE UNIVERSITIES
Step 1: Prior to attending results day have a list of back up universities you would be interested to apply to through clearing. Write them down and bring them to sixth form.
Step 2: If this situation occurs, find a teacher and bring these list of universities and their numbers.
Step 3: Talk with the teachers and universities about your best options. You could also consider retaking the year.
TO DO-
- Research universities that accepting applications through clearing
- Write down these universities and their phone numbers
Obviously I hope that none of you have to deal with the situation above but it is great to be prepared nonetheless! However, it is also worth noting that this will not work for everyone. Some people will certainly find this method too pessimistic and stressful. Other ways to prepare for results day can include distracting yourself! The post A-level summer is honestly the best so do enjoy it 🙂
I wish you all the best of luck and hope to see you this academic year!Lottie
