Hello everyone, happy February!

In this post, I am going to talk about some of the societies I’ve participated in and recommend to new or current students at Warwick. There are a huge range of societies for everyone here, but I will be talking about my favourites, focussing on societies I am a part of. I would like to note that there are many sports societies which I will not cover here, but if you are a sporty person, those are perfect for making new friends and getting active!

Pride

As a queer student, Pride is one of my favourite associations (technically not a society- it is complicated)! It is open to LGBT+ folks and allies with two versions of their free membership, with LGBT+ members being able to vote in elections. They have a discord server where you can chat and organise events and get-togethers as well as talk to the exec team. I myself live with some execs, and know the team well, and they are all lovely people. Pride soc offers many types of events, both sober and drinking socials, daytime and evening events (find me at LGBTea+) and informative ‘LGBTalks+’ sessions. Whether you’re queer, questioning, or an ally, this society welcomes everyone.

Tabletop and Roleplaying Games Society

Warwick Tabletop and Roleplaying Society is a brilliant society for anyone interested in board games, tabletop RPGs (such as Dungeons and Dragons), LARPing, and more! If you’re brand new to these things, you can ask the exec team and find beginners sessions for everything (usually at the start of the term/year) and if you’re a seasoned gamer, you can organise your own events! The society provides many items on loan, such as board games and D&D essentials, and as a member you can get a cool custom d20! Non-members are also free to take part, and everyone is welcome to large events. Check out the website (HERE) for specific game sessions.

Cobalt Magazine

Cobalt (website HERE) is an amazing arts magazine which releases a new issue each term, open to all types of artistic expression surrounding their issue themes. Simply purchase a membership, and you can submit any of your artistic works (non-members can also submit, but may not be featured). Poetry, short stories, think-pieces, photographs, art, and other creative works are all welcome. This society has allowed me to put my poetry out there into the world, so if you have a creative passion, I highly recommend it!

Film Studies Society

As a film student, I had to talk about Film Studies soc. It is a great society which shows films/TV episodes weekly for its members, and frequently collaborates with other societies. Related societies I recommend joining as a film student are Film Production, Bad Films, and Documentary Society.

Well, that concludes my list! I hope this was helpful and informative for anyone interested in joining some new societies either as a new or current student! For more information, check out the societies website HERE. Thank you for reading!
