Second Year Commences

I’m living in the south of Leamington Spa this year. Which is ace, largely because we live a 2 minute walk away from a pub, a 24/7 McDonalds, and an Aldi, which is all a student really needs.

There are, however, a few downsides to living in Leam – the main issue being the dreaded ‘U1’. The U1 is the university bus which occasionally takes you to and from the university. Much like London buses, however, their reliability is somewhat questionable. Some days the wait for the bus may be seconds, others a half an hour wait.

Much like every other year, the first weeks of university see all lectures attended and the library full of enthusiastic students typing up their lecture notes, reading ahead in their shiny new textbooks, and sipping coffee from cardboard cups. What you’ll likely notice in the coming weeks is more space in the library, more seats in lectures and fewer students leaving the comfort of their beds. Lecture capture, as I’m sure you’ll find, is both a gift and a curse.

The other shock of second year is the sudden realisation that this year actually counts towards your degree. 50% in fact. As a result the guilt felt from not attending a lecture is more intense than ever!

Essays, class test and problem sets throughout this term (some of which are assessed) are due in in a little over a month. This whole degree business is getting real now!

Overall though second year is off to a relatively problem free start, and I’m looking forward to getting back into the swing of things.

That’s all for now, and as always any questions then don’t hesitate to get in touch,

Tom.
