Returning to Warwick after a year abroad – what I am looking forward to!
With less than 2 weeks left before my fourth year at Warwick begins, I’m truly beginning to feel the ‘campus buzz’ slowly creep back into my life once more. As some of you will know, I have just completed a year abroad and essentially spent a year away from the beloved Warwick university – albeit I came back for a few guilty club nights here and there. Subsequently, I feel it will take a while to re-adjust to the Warwick bubble again and settle into the campus lifestyle. With that being said, my expectations for fourth year are very positive, and I simply cannot wait for it! So without further ado, here is what I’m especially looking forward to next year…
Being reunited with my uni-mates
Although I have had a chance to catch up with all my uni friends either on my year abroad, or throughout this summer, I cannot wait to have all my Warwick friends back in one place again. I really enjoyed my time at Cologne uni, although it was a city university – meaning all my erasmus friends were scattered around the place. This is something Warwick offers differently to a lot of other universities, as all your friends are so easily reachable on campus, which makes meeting up incredibly easy.
My course and the choice of modules
Studying a range of different modules at Cologne uni was a great experience, but it definitely made me appreciate my module choice at Warwick. With the business school offering over 50 modules for me to choose from this year, and the German department having some business-German crossover modules as well, I am very much looking forward to resuming my degree after a year-long hiatus.
The campus buzz
Warwick campus doesn’t possess the nickname "the bubble" for no reason. It truly is a unique hub for students that has a certain buzz to it which is rarely felt elsewhere. Being surrounded by 1000’s of like-minded students and having everything on your doorstep, for example: the library, the SU, supermarkets, coffee outlets, the gym etc. make for a university experience like no other, and I can’t wait to embrace the campus lifestyle once more.
Warwick university is home to some great club-nights and fresher events, but I feel none quite live up to the infamous Wednesday-night Pop! With circling being the ritual beforehand, and then 4 hours of the cheesiest, but greatest tracks from Disco Dave’s repertoire, it really is a struggle to find a club-night that can top it.
The wealth of sports available
Warwick is home to so many different sports on campus, which gives everyone the opportunity to get active and find something they like. In the first two years I have played 5-a-side football most weeks, as well as getting involved with badminton and netball ‘rock up and play sessions’. I’m hoping to try some new sports this year, and even pick up a martial art.
So that’s it for what I’m most looking forward to next year. It’s safe to say that I have seriously missed Warwick, and cannot wait to get stuck in again. See you in my next blog!
