This week I went back on to campus to give prospective students campus tours. It was really lovely to be back and see what has changed on campus. When giving the tours I found there were lots of questions so I thought I would answer these questions on here in case you were also wondering.
Why did you choose Warwick?
I loved how it was like a mini city–every-thing was on your doorstep which helps you build your independence. Warwick also has lots of unique opportunities and is highly regarded around the world
What sports and societies are available at university?
There are over 250 societies and 50 sports clubs–to view the list click the link https://www.warwicksu.com/societies-sports/societies/. There are so many to choose from.
How did you find accommodation in your 2nd and 3rd year?
The University and the SU hold a housing day in Term 1 to give you tips of how to find your new home; they provide a list of recommended landlords/ estate agents. The SU will read your contract before you sign to ensure it is fair. Most 2nd and 3rd years live in Leamington Spa or Coventry- don’t rush into anything.
What is the night life like?
The Copper Rooms is the club on campus with a variety of parties, plus there is a party bus which collects you from cam-pus and takes you to the clubs in Leamington Spa, Coventry and Birmingham –the price includes your trip to and from the club plus entry inside.
What opportunities will there be for me?
There are lots of opportunities at your fingertips such as placements, internships, studying abroad and much more. Remember everyone will graduate with a degree so try and do as much extra-curricular as possible to make you stand out when you graduate.
How much does student life cost?
This will vary for each student. There are lots of different factor such as which Halls you live in, how much you eat and how much you go out. I would recommend using the Warwick budget calculator available on the App Store/ Google Play to help you work out your personal costs.https://warwick.ac.uk/services/academicoffice/finance/
Is a place in halls guaranteed?
In the first year you are guaranteed to be on campus- there are a few exceptions-https://warwick.ac.uk/services/accommodation/studentaccommodation/apply/20/new/allocation_policy_20.pdf
Is Warwick safe?
Unfortunately there has been a lot of stories about girls feeling unsafe on campus at Warwick and there is currently a protest against sexual violence. I can only speak from my personal experience and say that I have felt safe on campus- even walking back from the library at 3am- campus security are always there to help and are very friendly and approachable. I think it is also important to remember that sadly there is these issues all across society and at other universities.
