Hey guys,

I hope you’re all well!

Today I wanted to give you an insight into what I’ll be taking  onto campus on a daily basis. In these times, I think it’s a good idea to limit what you carry around with you to just the essentials. That means that there is less to decontaminate at the end of the day!

A small backpack

Pre pandemic, I used to take my Fjällräven Kanken Mini to campus on the days I only had seminars. I really like the compact nature of the bag, but I also like the fact that it isn’t too small. Since the only face to face element of my course this academic year is the seminars, I really don’t see the point in lugging around a huge bag.

A couple of pens

At the start of each academic year, I always fall into the trap of buying a new pencil case. I’ve now come to the conclusion that I won’t really need one this year (pandemic or not, I only ever use pens or my laptop). I’ll just throw a couple of pens in the bottom of my bag and possibly a highlighter.

A notebook

This one is self explanatory. I use my laptop in lectures but like to make seminar notes by hand. I favour A5 notebooks, but I guess you could always bring a tablet!

Tissues

I always used to carry these with me anyway, but I think it’s especially important to have them now.

Hand sanitiser

Obviously!

A mask

Again I say, obviously!

My phone

I think I’ll only be on campus for an hour at a time, but I still like to have it just in case.

Some cash/my card

I don’t actually take these things to campus myself as I never leave the department, but I would if I did. Just in case!

My student ID

This one is always around my neck anyway and seems pretty obvious, but it’s very important that you don’t forget it. It may be hard to access certain buildings if you do!

A jacket

Due to the pandemic, the teaching spaces will have to be properly ventilated. Some areas of the campus can be cold at the best of times, so I imagine now it will be 10 times worse! It’s always best to stay cosy, I work better if I am!

So there you have it, a list of what I’m planning to take with me to campus this year. Let me know below if this was helpful and also if I’m missing anything!
