Nights at Warwick
Many of you will be arriving on campus and moving into your first-year accommodation soon, if not already! There are plenty of things going on and places for a night out on campus. If you’re feeling more adventurous, then a short bus ride away we have Leamington Spa and Coventry. If you’re willing to travel further, there’s always Birmingham – where there’s always loads going on! This blog post will give you a brief overview of where to head on a night out at Warwick. Quick disclaimer – this is by no means an exhaustive guide! This is just a scratch on the surface…
On Campus
Terrace Bar – located in the SU (it’s upstairs) the terrace bar is open 4/5pm – late! It’s a great place to chill (especially on a warm evening).
The Dirty Duck – The campus pub, always a chilled and friendly vibe. Pub Quizzes on a Thursday which is open to all. They also serve some great (and reasonably priced) pub grub. Last I checked a burger and a pint for six quid – happy days!
Fusion Bar – If you’re a sports fan and don’t fancy finding some dodgy site to stream ‘the game’ then Fusion Bar is the place to head. Located in the Rootes building above the learning grid, Fusion Bar always shows the hottest fixtures. It’s also the place to go for a cheap meal (meals from just over a fiver).
Copper Rooms – Regular events occur at the on-campus club, the copper rooms. POP! Is the Wednesday night go to place, tickets are available on the Warwick SU site. ‘Skool Dayz’ is another regular event with other annual events (such as the beer festival) occurring at this venue.
Societies – Many societies engage in an activity unique to Warwick – circling. This involves willing members of the society sitting in a circle playing games (usually which involves drinking ‘purple’, the university beverage of choice). This is then followed by a trip to some bars or a club. Other societies will have events going on all the time all over campus, be it sporting events, gaming, card games, improv, academia, debating, or whatever – there’s certainly something for everyone.
Meal out? – If you fancy heading out for some food, in addition to The Dirty Duck and Fusion Bar, there’s the on-campus restaurant: Xananas. Whilst the pronunciation is hotly debated it’s a nice restaurant located above Rootes Grocery store.
Off Campus
Clubs – The off-campus clubs of choice tend to be one of the following three: Neon, Smack and Kasbah. These clubs all have offers on different nights of the week, so here’s the usual routine:
Monday – Kasbah
Tuesday – Smack
Wednesday – Copper Rooms (for POP!)
Thursday – Smack again
Friday – Neon
These are the nights (last year at least) where the offers are on! It’s usually wise to invest in a queue jump unless you fancy a wait in the typically brisk British weather.
Sadly, there isn’t enough time in the day for me to write about all the bars in Leamington, Coventry and Birmingham. What I will say is that there are plenty! One which I will pick out is ‘Duke’ in Leamington – as they occasionally have an offer on for a few drinks and a queue jump.
If bars and clubs aren’t your thing then fear not! Leamington is host to a huge variety of restaurants, shops and venues hosting regular events. If you can’t find what you’re after in Leamington, you’re sure to find it in Birmingham.
My advice? Keep an eye on the social events which your society is hosting. It’s always great to hang out with new people all with a common interest – most of the events are really fun, and you’ll often end up trying something new!

That’s all for now,
