My Summer Plans
Hiya everyone. I hope you’re all living your best lives on your summer holidays and making the most out of your freedom from work, university, and stress! I wanted to take this opportunity to tell you about my summer plans and perhaps give you some inspiration if you’re struggling to find things to do.
Straight after my exams finished, like most people, I headed straight off to the pub to celebrate with my friends. My plans for the days following my final exam were relatively flexible. One thing that I was super excited about was going on holiday! My friends and I booked a trip away to Amsterdam for a few days to explore the sights, and the culture, and to just see what the city held! It was our first holiday abroad as a uni group, and in fact, it was my first holiday away since COVID! We had a whole itinerary of things planned and lined up to make the most out of our time there.
Unfortunately, the freedom for me pretty much ended there, as literally the following day, I began my summer internship at Rolls-Royce. This is a ten-week placement away from home, which of course means that I’ll be away from my family and friends for the whole duration, which really sucks. Ten weeks is the equivalent to a whole term at university, so the realisation of barely seeing my family and friends from home for a whole year was really difficult to comprehend at first. However, I do have a few friends in the area where I’m interning, and I’ve heard great things about the food and social life, so this is definitely a positive! Not only that, but the ten weeks that I’ll be spending at the company will give me the opportunity to form new connections and friendships with people, as well as explore a field that I haven’t had much exposure to in the past, and thus can allow me to gain lots of experiences from it.
Following a long and arduous ten weeks away from home, I am very much looking forward to spending time with my family. The later stages of my summer holiday are still yet to be confirmed, but I have so many things I want to do! I want to obviously spend as much time as I can with my family and friends, going out to restaurants and doing fun activities around London. I am also hoping to go on holiday either with my family or my best friend, or both, as these were both supposed to happen before the pandemic hit :/
Lastly and actually quite depressingly, I plan to get ahead of the upcoming academic year and prepare myself for the future. With it being my final year, and the year that counts the most, I want to put myself in good stead for what’s to come. This includes looking up and researching what all of my modules will involve, and also recap the content covered in the previous year. I also plan to look into opportunities during and post-university; this could either be small jobs/roles during my studies and also work opportunities following graduation.
My goal this summer is to be motivated and proactive. Realising that life is too short to sit around and do nothing makes me appreciate the importance of making the most out of my free time.
