My restaurant recommendations near Warwick
First of all, I would like to start my blog post by wishing everyone well in this difficult time. I hope everyone is using their time fruitfully, whether be it learning something new, getting plenty of rest, spending time with family or learning something new.
In this episode, I am going to talk about my favourite restaurants in close proximity to Warwick. Hopefully, everyone can give them a try when things return to normal!
1. China Red (Chinese, Coventry)
I am from Hong Kong, so naturally I would be looking for my fix for Chinese food on a regular basis, in particular Cantonese cuisine. China Red in Coventry is the perfect place to fix my cravings. While it is very difficult for Chinese restaurants in the UK to completely replicate the levels of dishes back home, it is safe to say China Red provides the most authentic dishes in the Coventry area. Personally, I really enjoy having lunch there, as they have an extensive dim sum menu, from which you can order between 12 and 5 pm every day. China Red also does a very delicious fried rice. There is also the option of hot pot for a reasonable price, which is particularly appealing in the winter.
Price range: £10-20, Rating: 9/10
2. Millennium Balti (Indian, Leamington Spa)
The Balti is hands down the best Indian restaurant in the area, as I am sure a lot of people at Warwick would agree. The University’s cricket club goes there for a club meal on a regular basis, so the restaurant is clearly held in high regard. One of the main features of the restaurant is that you are welcome to bring your own drinks, which may appeal to many of us. Even so, drinks there are quite cheap, and a 660 mL bottle of Cobra will only set you back £2.25. I really like spice, so normally I go for the vindaloo, while chicken biryani is also a personal favourite. If you want less spicy dishes, you can opt for the korma or masala. The rice, naan bread and poppadoms are also excellent. There is a 10% student discount upon showing your student ID between Sunday and Wednesday.
Price range: £8-15, Rating: 9/10
3. To Pho (Vietnamese, Coventry)
If you are looking for affordable and delicious Asian food, then look no further than To Pho in Coventry. Located opposite Pool Meadow Bus station, To Pho offers a wide variety of Vietnamese dishes including rare beef pho, pork chop bun with spring rolls, honey marinated chicken wings, and to finish it off with dessert, a homemade, smooth bean curd pudding. As for drinks, Asian delicacies such as bubble tea are offered. I normally go there for dinner, since there is no price difference between its lunch and dinner menus. Do note that it is a cash only restaurant, however.
Price range: £7-12, Rating: 8.5/10
I frankly cannot wait to be able to come back to uni again soon and dine at these restaurants! Bon appetit!
