My Favourite Places on Warwick Campus

As term time comes around the corner, I’ve been reminded of just how much I miss campus. I love its close-knit feel, the amazing architecture it offers and constant innovation going on, for example the newly-built Warwick Arts Centre and the refurbishment of the library.

In no particular order, here are my favourite places on campus which I can’t wait to visit when term starts.

  1. The Oculus

In my opinion, the Oculus is definitely the best place to study on campus – I’ve had many productive writing sessions in its numerous different study spaces. My favourite space in the Oculus has to be the high seats on the second floor that are right next to the window, where you can watch the world of Warwick walk, drive and cycle by whilst working. Another fun area is where you can sit on a chair and study, whilst pedalling a bike underneath your feet!

Every time I choose to study at the Oculus, I truly feel immersed into the Warwick community and so it remains a firm favourite place on campus for me. As well as this, it’s just such a stunning building: I have a soft spot for its architecture too.

2) The Piazza

Another firm favourite of mine is the Piazza. Again, I think my favourite places on campus all have a strong community feel to them. I love how busy it gets, and I have spent many lunchtimes sitting on the piazza steps with a Pret in hand! It’s what I would consider the ‘central hub’ of campus – it’s close to the bus station, Rootes Grocery Store, Pret A Manger and other cafés, so you’re never short of things to do when you’re here.

3) Warwick Sports Centre

This is a recent addition to my favourite places on campus, as throughout Term One and Two I was unable to use the sports centre due to lockdowns. I used the gym in Term Three, which was the biggest one I had ever been in. It has numerous pieces of cardio and weights equipment, and I always felt spoilt for choice when deciding what machines to use! I have also been in the sauna, which coupled with a cold shower afterwards is the perfect way to finish a gym session. This year, I hope to use more of the facilities in the sports centre, such as the swimming pool, steam room and squash courts.

4) Pret A Manger

Pret – an absolute classic. The best place for a chocolate frappé, a chai latté or a strawberry smoothie (my favourite drinks!). I had never been to a Pret before coming to Warwick, and I can say it has definitely climbed the ladder of my top coffee shops. Me and my flatmates went to Pret so many times in first year, and it should definitely be on your list of places to go when you arrive at Warwick. Pro Pret tip: asking for a hazelnut shot in your chocolate frappé will make it taste like a Kinder Bueno!
