Monash Orientation

It’s been such a busy time at Monash and I’ve barely had any time to keep everyone updated with my Australian adventure! So this post is dedicated to Monash Orientation week; this was the most amazing week of my time here so far and helped me to settle in more than I could have imagined.

Orientation week is the most perfect opportunity for all of the new students – both International and returning students – to meet everyone, get settled into the campus, and learn about the surrounding area. During the week we did so many fun activities within groups of friends, within your hall of residence, and within your floor.

Floor Games…

Floor games are a great way to bond with your floor and compete against everyone else in some fun and friendly competition. It’s a great way to break the ice with people without having the standard small-talk that so many people find uncomfortable.

Shopping trips…

The O-Team members take everyone on trips to the surrounding shopping malls and grocery stores in the very first week to ensure that everyone knows which buses to take, when to take them and where all the best (and cheapest!) shops are. This is vital information and you get to have chats with so many different people as you all find your way around the surrounding areas.

City trips…

The best part of O-Week is getting to visit Melbourne city centre with the whole hall of residence. Some nights we went to a few bars and had food out, other nights we did trips to see the sights of the city, and finally we took a trip into the city to see an AFL game at the Etihad stadium – an amazing experience which truly made me feel like I was in Australia!

Free food…

One of the most amazing things about O-Week is the opportunity to eat loads of free food and not have to worry about buying or cooking food – I don’t think I cooked a proper meal for weeks! Every night they offer pizza, takeout, group meals etc which is so useful when you’re just getting settled in and getting over the jetlag.

To sum up, O-Week is the best part of settling into Australian life as it helps you to meet new people, get some free food and have fun at the same time. I would recommend attending everything you can even if you’re still tired from travelling, it’s so worth it and you’ll definitely thank yourself in a few weeks time!
