Hi everyone,

Well, here we are! It’s my penultimate undergraduate blog post! I want to use this one to share with you my experience of being a student blogger. I think, since I started the role in First Year, I’ve done over 50 blog posts. I’ve managed to cover a wide range of topics in that time, from disability to course specific information.

If I remember rightly, I was sent an email that said the Film and TV department had recommended me for the role of First Year Student Blogger. The email asked whether I wanted to take up the role, to which I of course answered yes. If any of you out there ever receive a similar email, I highly recommend that you do the same.

I think, for me, one of the major draws to accepting the role was the fact that I could use the blogging platform to help people. When I was a Fresher, I found it really hard to find first hand accounts from people studying at Warwick with a disability. I’d like to think that at least some of my blog posts have helped people in a similar position to myself.

I’ve also made sure to write posts on a variety of topics because I know that disability content won’t be useful to everyone, so I’m sure that there will be something beneficial for most platform users if you look on my OurWarwick profile.

Being given the opportunity to blog for OurWarwick really gave my undergraduate experience an extra dimension. It has allowed me to feel as though I was giving back to a department (and a university) that has given me so much. It also provided me with a non-academic writing outlet, something that provided me with a break from essays and assignments. I would do it all again in a heartbeat.

As I said earlier in the post, if you are given the opportunity to be a student blogger- take it! The role really does have so many benefits. There have been a few occasions when people have contacted me to let me know that my advice helped them. If each blog post I’ve written only helps one person, I’ll be happy!

Feel free to get in touch with me if you have any questions regarding student blogging. I’ll be back later this month to share with you my final undergraduate blog post- all about my next steps! Thanks so much to Our Warwick and the Film and TV department for giving me this opportunity- it’s been a pleasure!
