Hi everyone!

As we move into the last few weeks of term 2, I always find this part of the year the most difficult in terms of burn out and finding the motivation to complete the last few weeks and move into ‘revision mode’.

On top of all this stress I expected, I did not anticipate being in a third lockdown during the coldest months of the year so a few weeks ago I decided to change my routine up a little to give myself time to do a few activities that would help me get out of this ‘winter blues’ slump and regain some motivation.

A few weeks ago, I attended a masterclass called “Feeling Good, Functioning Well” run by the Warwick Wellbeing service.

In the session, we looked at the core foundations of well-being and how we can effectively organise our time to include work, free time and exercise.

A technique which I found particularly useful was to include your ‘breaks’ into daily routine/revision timetable as then they are something to look forward to and you lessen some the guilt/worry we all normally feel when we’re just relaxing but maybe should be working.

Another tip they brought up which I hadn’t heard before was to make sure you still connect with the people you’re living with as it is easy to fall into a routine and become so focused on work that we don’t spend time with other people.

So, whenever possible, give time to your family, friends and flatmates whether it’s having a communal meal every few days together or even just making each other a tea in your study breaks.

Hopefully the announcement yesterday, that we can start to return to normalcy in the coming months will be the perfect boost for everyone’s motivation for the rest of this term but just in case you need a reminder I would definitely sign up for one of these classes!

The classes also provide you with various resources to do with exercise, mindfulness and mental health support so there is something for everyone!

Here the links for the relevant webpages:

(You have to book the masterclasses in advance but there are so many available!)

If you have any of your own tips for boosting motivation and positivity, please feel free to share them in the comments, I’d love to hear about them!
