Healthy Habits I Incorporate into my Daily Life

- HYDRATE, THEN CAFFEINATE
The first thing I do when waking up in the morning is drink a large glass of water. Only then do I make a coffee. This ensures my body is hydrated, which is essential because coffee can be dehydrating.
- MOVING MY BODY DAILY
My training routine is very varied: some days I tackle a heavy leg day whilst others, I opt for a long walk with a podcast. Being in tune with your body and listening to the sort of movement it is asking from you is essential.
- THE 80/20 RULE
I eat everything in moderation and do not deprive myself at all. Personally, I feel my best when I eat a high protein, wholefood based diet, with plenty of fruits, veggies and healthy fats. For 80% of the time, this is how I eat. However, I also believe heavily in the concept of soul foods. Therefore, for 20% of the time, I enjoy foods that are less nutritionally dense but, instead, nourish my soul. Being truly healthy with how you eat is about what you can ADD to your diet rather than take away.
- NOT GOING ON MY PHONE FOR THE FIRST HOUR OF THE DAY
Instead, I’ll complete a simple, morning routine that sets me up for the day! A key aspect of this is journaling: every morning I spend about half an hour writing down anything that is on my mind, expressing gratitude and setting intentions for the day.
- HAVING A NIGHTIME ROUTINE THAT HAS AT LEAST 3 COMPONENTS
This gives your body the cues it needs to know it’s time for sleep. These three things can be anything: I make a fresh mint tea, do my skincare and brush my teeth, before hopping into bed to read. By the time I get to the reading, my head is ready to hit the pillow!
- GETTING OUTSIDE EVERY DAY
I go for a walk every day, which gets me away from screens and out and about. Not only do I get a healthy dose of fresh air, sunlight is a great source of vitamin D! It’s also good for managing stress and gives you a much needed moment of calm for the day ahead.
