Final Year Goals and Intentions
“I’ve been simultaneously wishing the time away until graduation and clinging to the final few months of education before the real world for a while now, and I think it’s finally time to live more in the moment.”
Today’s post is somewhat self-indulgent but as I approach the start of my final year at university I’ve been reflecting on my experience so far. I’ve mentioned it before, but university hasn’t been the stereotypical happy-go-lucky adventure that everyone makes you believe it will be, and this is what motivates me to share my experiences, in the hopes that others like me will feel less isolated. Nevertheless, I want to make the most of my final year and, to hold myself accountable, I wanted to share my goals and intentions for my third and final year.
My biggest academic goal is definitely to be more proactive with my revision, something that I meant to do last year. Keeping up with my revision notes as I go, making flashcards for potential exam topics, and so on will definitely make my life easier when the summer term rolls around. I’ll let you know if I actually succeed this time!
This proactivity will hopefully contribute to me achieving my second academic goal this year, which is to continue to build on successes from previous years, specifically my grades. I’m really proud of what I’ve achieved so far but I want to push myself to my greatest potential in my final year with graduation on the horizon.
The primary social goal this year is to join a sports team! Again, this is something that I’ve wanted to do since I started uni but I never had the confidence to do it. With my time at university running out, it’s now or never and I can’t think of a better way to set my final year apart from previous years.
Another intention is to actually attend socials, be it in person or virtually. I’ve been a part of a number of amazing societies in my time at university but, for a variety of reasons, have rarely made the most of their socials. This year I’ll fix that!
Finally, I want to spend more time with my housemates! I’ll obviously be spending a significant amount of time at home this coming academic year and I’d love to get some new weekly traditions rolling.
I can definitely blame my mental health for the shaky two terms I had in my second year. I can’t afford to withdraw to the extent I did then when I have so little time left at uni, so my mental health is going to be a huge priority. I’m going to start by just being kinder to myself, not beating myself up when I’m down. But I would also love to establish some sort of feel-good routine, with my favourite movies and food, for example, to pick myself up and get back on track ASAP. It’s going to be a work in progress but I’m confident final year will be a good year!
What I’ve learned from writing this post is that, overall, I just want to make the most of the unique experiences available at university while I still can. I’ve been simultaneously wishing the time away until graduation and clinging to the final few months of education before the real world for a while now, and I think it’s finally time to live in the moment more.
Today’s post has been a bit of a shorter one but I hope you’ve enjoyed, and hopefully me setting out my goals for the year ahead will hold me accountable!
What are your goals and intentions for the upcoming academic year?
