End of Year Abroad

It’s been a while since I posted a blog and hopefully this post will give some of the reasons why. It’s coming to the end of a lot of peoples years abroad and so now is a very important time for us. This post will hopefully help us all to make the most out of the end of the year in such wonderful countries before we head back to the real hard work at home!

See and do as much as you can…

Here at Monash I generally have a pretty hectic timetable and so I find it difficult to take proper time off to do trips to places (as well as the money!). But now is the time to organise any last minute trips to make sure you don’t have any regrets before you jet off home. I’m planning a trip for the weeks between my last exams and my flight home to make sure I don’t miss out on something I couldn’t afford to do when I first arrived!

Get organised…

You don’t want to be rushing your assignents in the last days of your time abroad so try to get up to date and finish them as early as possible so you can make the most of having fun with all your friends! Now is also a good time (if you’re awaiting a long-haul flight like me) to check the details of your flight coming home so you have no nasty surprises. Or even book your flights so you get the best deal before things become too expensive!

Remember to take pictures…

I know most of you will have some good night-out selfies like I do and some great groups shots with all your friends, but remember to take pictures of other things too. It’s nice to go home and be able to properly show your friends and family the house you lived in or the surroundings in the local town rather than just heaps of group photos.

Start planning your summer…

Some of you may be getting a longer summer break than usual because of your year abroad so make sure to plan your time wisely. Chat with old friends and organise trips together, or even try to find some summer work experience to make the most of your free time before heading into the dreaded final year. I’ll hopefully be volunteering with the university during the summer as well as planning my dissertation and my society responsibilities before I get hit with essays and deadlines in term 1!

Finally, make sure your accommodation is all sorted; you don’t want to come back to a lost place in a house you’d been relying on or even a grumpy landlord shoving documents at you left right and centre! A lot of you will be staying on campus for your final year but if (like me) you’re not, make sure you’ve sent all the required documentation and have sorted out a date to sign the contract in person (as they usually ask you to do this on your arrival back home).

Hopefully this will help you make the most out of your last days abroad, and remember to enjoy every second!
