Commuting to campus

Regardless of where you live, and what you have access to, finding a reliable method of commuting to university is essential, so here are some of my favourite and perhaps overlooked transportation methods!
1. West Midlands Bus on demand- This is honestly such a gem that not many people have heard of. It is essentially an Uber and bus hybrid- They are happy to pick you up from anywhere, and drop you anywhere within a large area which includes Coventry, Kenilworth, Leamington etc. No matter the distance, the fare is always around £2 if you buy multiple ride passes, or £3 for a single journey. Either way it is a bargain compared to taking the cab!
*Plus, using code “harry7u6” gives you 2 free rides when you sign up 🙂
2. Cycling- If you have your own, then obviously cycling is a great option particularly as road works recently have been revamped to be much more bike friendly. Furthermore, there are myriad bike stations around operated by West Midlands bike share scheme- Just download the Beryl app and look out for the green bikes for a cheap and convenient way of commuting around campus and beyond!

3. Walking- If you live within 20/30 minute walk to campus (I lived in Tile hill during my second year, which is a 35 minute walk), I still found it was better to walk to campus as I would have a guaranteed arrival time, rather than depending on public transport such as bus, since unexpected traffic accidents or road closures are going to happen at some point.
4. Bus- Many public bus routes take you to central campus, such as 11 from Coventry, 12X from Leamington, but I’m sure you will have the help of google maps to navigate this! Again this is a cheap but maybe less reliable option, since buses may overcrowd when everyone is trying to reach campus during the early morning rush hour!
5. Car share- Try to look for friends who drive and schedule your day to go to campus around the same time. If you’re a driver yourself, offer to take your friends with you, it really does save a lot of time and stress, and you also help reduce travel emissions!
