Christmas on Campus

Anyone who knows me well is more than aware that I am obsessed with all things Christmas. As soon as Halloween is over and done with I go into full-festive mode – this year I was itching to start playing Christmas songs well before the end of October, but I do have self-control. I went out with a meal some friends from the Boar last week to celebrate winning an award for best publication in the Midlands (go us!), and nearly squealed with excitement when I discovered that GBK have brought out Christmas specials. It really doesn’t take much to get me into the Christmas spirit…

This got me thinking about Christmas on campus – even though most of us will be heading home over the holidays, a lot of the build up to Christmas is done here at Warwick. Even though it’s easy to get homesick at this time of year, there are plenty of things to do around campus to help you feel the Christmas cheer.

As simple as it sounds, having the food outlets on campus start to sell Christmas themed drinks and cakes has cheered me up no end recently. Last week was just one of those weeks where I needed little treats to cheer myself up, and popping into Costa for a Christmas drink every now and then definitely did the trick. The hot spiced apple winter warmer from Costa is perfect for making you feel cosy when the weather is so cold, and the library café has got some specials of their own. Not to mention the Christmas themed cakes on offer – gingerbread muffin anyone? Curiousitea are bringing out their Christmas specials this week too I think, so there’s that to look forward to, although their Harry Potter specials are a tough act to follow!

There are plenty of Christmas activities starting up around campus too. This Thursday the library are holding a Study Happy Christmas Crafts session which is bound to brighten your day. I always find taking an hour or so out of my day to do something fun increases my productivity too. Not only this but Christmas circles are almost upon us. If you head over to POP! for weeks 9 or 10 there’s bound to be a Christmas-themed circle happening with some society or another. And of course, celebrating Christmas with your flat is a great way to make you feel more at home in the lead-up to the big day. We always have a flat Christmas meal, where we exchange secret Santa gifts over my flatmate’s legendary roast potatoes.

I hope the last few weeks of term aren’t too stressful for you all, and the Christmassy things around campus help distract you from any looming deadlines!
