Christmas Break: A time for rest or stress?
It’s that time of the year again. The temperature has decreased, the tinsel is out and Mariah Carey ‘All I want for Christmas is you’ is blasting… Again. The first term of my second year life has ended, and as I start to reminisce I find myself stumbling across the thought “How the hell did I survive that?” If I’m perfectly honest this term has been far from ‘Happy and Jolly’ for me- If anything it was more ‘stressful and stressful’.
Second year is certainly a step up from first year; in terms of work load, the amount of deadlines, what is expected of you and, most importantly, in terms of social life. Let me tell you, living off campus is not great (I miss you Claycroft). The convenience that campus provides and the absence of this has maybe been the hardest thing that I have had to adjust to in second year. One piece of advice that I’d give any first year when looking for accommodation is look at transport links. You definitely don’t want to be stranded in the middle of nowhere! Oh and don’t buy a bus pass- it’s a scam. Anyway, I’m definitely going off track here. Back to the Christmas break…
Now its the end of term I feel as though there should be some sort of feeling of relief, but I think that my work balance needs to be better now more than ever. Although this term has been quite packed in terms of deadlines for me, I have to keep the balling rolling because this isn’t where it all ends. Although it’s sad to say, over the Christmas period deadlines still exist, they’re basically like a cute present from each of your module tutors. Being off campus people can often forget about their university commitments so it is important for you to be aware of when your deadlines actually are. This is where our good friend Tabula comes in. When you login to the website, click on the ‘coursework management’ option, and Tabula will give you a summary of all the coursework you will have to hand in for the year and when it’s due. Make sure you check it out and write down all of your deadlines so that you don’t miss any! Alternatively, you can download the ‘My Warwick’ app on your phone and it will alert you when you have a deadline coming up. Yes it might kill the festive mood a little bit, but at least you won’t completely regret it in the new year.
Overall, what i’m trying to say is HAVE FUN over the Christmas period! Relax, have fun with friends, eat way too much food; but don’t forget that DEADLINES STILL EXIST!
Merry Christmas everyone! xxx
