12 Days Till Christmas

There are only twelve days till Christmas but I am not feeling the holiday spirit at all. Sorry for being a party pooper, but back home, in India, Christmas is not celebrated in an elaborate way.

There are no roast turkey dinners or large family gatherings. Neither do people sing Christmas carols or distribute gifts, as such. This is because the majority of Indians, as you would know are not catholic and so it doesn’t resonate religiously with them. At the same time, however, people put up decorated Christmas trees in their houses (like I have in mine) go out for a nice meal on the day (which doesn’t necessarily consist of roast turkey or potato) and attend Christmas Carnivals, not necessarily dolled up in red. These Christmas Carnivals are done up with beautiful Christmas decorations, consist of games and activities for kids and shops with a plethora of goods.

What am I doing for Christmas, you ask? I am probably going to be sat on a pool chair, soaking up the sun, by the beach, in my summer holiday home. Well as long as I am relaxing and at one with myself, for even a day, not thinking about the pile of coursework I need to catch up on, or the society work I need to do, or even the terribly awful cold I would have to soon go back to, I would have fully embraced the festive season.

So, enough about me. How are you celebrating Christmas in your country? Or, are you celebrating it in the library? I hope the latter is not true and if it is, I beg you to go and enjoy the day and not think about work for one day. You will love it.

To end on a positive note, here’s a major throwback to me laughing at some hilarious joke my father cracked during Christmas Dinner.
